Middlebury Police Log: Police ask intoxicated men to leave church clock tower

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a report of two men being in the Congregational Church of Middlebury’s clock tower at around 2:15 a.m. on June 27. The men claimed they worked for a cell phone company and were working on the tower, according to police. But police said both men were found to be intoxicated and were told to leave the building.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Arrested Bilal Griffith, 19, of Middlebury, for violation of court orders, on Route 7 south on June 22.

Vergennes Police Log: Police keep busy with domestic cases, accidents

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with a variety of incidents in the seven days between June 22 and 28, including cases of vandalism, arguing couples, motorcycle accidents and illegal operation of tractor-trailer trucks.

In that week, Vergennes police:

• On June 22 responded to a motorcycle accident on Bowman Road that police described as minor and said did not involve another vehicle.

• On June 22 were told that fencing and a lawn decoration had been damaged at a South Maple Street home.

MALONE, N.Y. — The 16-member Vermont State Police SWAT team, including two troopers now based in the New Haven barracks and one who operated out of that site until recently, joined the 1,300-strong law enforcement task force that ultimately brought two Clinton (N.Y.) Correctional Facility escapees to justice.

Vergennes Police Log: Police attend to disputes, thefts, motor and alcohol violations

VERGENNES — A loud muffler led to drug- and alcohol-related charges for two Vergennes-area teens celebrating Independence Day.

Vergennes police said they stopped a car on Main Street for defective equipment just before midnight on July 4; in it, they said, were four teens between the ages of 14 and 16. Police said they smelled the odor of marijuana and saw containers of alcoholic beverages in the car.

Middlebury Police Log: Police assist a woman with getting a no-stalking order

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police gave information on July 4 to a Two Brothers Tavern employee on how she could apply for a no-stalking order after she reported being stalked by a male patron.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•   Were informed of the theft of a cell phone from a Court Street Extension business on June 29.

•   Tended to a barking dog complaint in Woodland Park on June 29.

ADDISON COUNTY — In recent activity in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, the following took place:

Chad Badore, 43, of Vergennes pleaded innocent to a June 6 charge of driving under the influence, and was released with conditions.

Lewis Bent, 57, of Middlebury pleaded innocent to a June 14 charge of driving under the influence, and was released with conditions.

Vergennes Police Log: Variety of complaints keep city police busy

VERGENNES — Littering, noise complaints, medical emergencies and drug cases ranging from an overdose to possession of small amounts of marijuana were among the incidents that kept Vergennes police busy between July 6 and 12.

During those seven days, Vergennes police:

•  On July 6 at 2 a.m. told youths playing basketball on the city courts to turn down music and to move off the court a car with its headlights on; police told the youths they could finish their game before leaving.

Vermont State Police Log: Child revived after near-drowning incident

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating a July 12 swimming pool accident in Addison involving an 18-month-old child.

Police said it was at around 6:23 p.m. on Sunday that they and other emergency responders were called to a medical emergency at a home at 1603 Jersey St. in Addison. Upon arrival, they learned that an 18-month-old girl had been found unresponsive in a pool. Fortunately, family members had administered CPR and successfully revived the child, according to police.

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police dealt with a variety of incidents between July 13 and 20, including an alleged assault and a serious farm injury.

In those eight days, Middlebury police:

• On July 13 were told by an East View Terrace resident about unauthorized credit card use, a case that is still being investigated.

• On July 13 began investigating an alleged assault on College Street on the Middlebury College campus that police said possibly involved unlawful restraint.

Vergennes Police Log: Man driving with children in truck cited for DUI and reckless endangerment

VERGENNES — A tip from a concerned citizen on Saturday, July 18, resulted in Vergennes police issuing a series of citations to an Addison man, including driving-under-the-influence of drugs, test refusal, third offense, and two citations for reckless endangerment of children under the age of 12.

At about 9:15 p.m. that night, Vergennes police also cited Matthew Couture, 38, for leaving the scene of an accident on Panton Road.

Vermont State Police Log: Salisbury traffic stop yields two DUI charges

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police issued citations for driving under the influence of alcohol to two people at the same traffic stop in Salisbury this past Saturday night.

On Saturday, July 18, at around 11 p.m. Trooper Eden Neary stopped a motor vehicle driven by Jessica B. Turner, 63, after seeing the vehicle failing to drive to the right on Rogers Road in Salisbury. The trooper screened the Weston resident for DUI after observing signs of impairment.

Vergennes Police Log for July 30: Police investigate missing bike

VERGENNES — Vergennes police looked into a July 22 report from a Macdonough Drive resident that a bicycle had been stolen from his home, and that he suspected that a Northlands Job Corps student was behind the theft.

Police spoke to the director of Northlands, who said the student had been removed from the federal jobs training program and had offered to pay for any damages he had left behind.

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Travis Huestis, 25, of Middlebury for domestic assault and two counts of violating his conditions of release, following an investigation of a reported disturbance at a North Pleasant Street home on July 23.

Police said Huestis is scheduled to answer to the charges in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on Aug. 31.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Assisted a homeless woman on Washington Street on July 20.
